It's About Time...

When asked to speak, make sure you meet with the organizer of the event and find out exactly how much time the organizer needs for you to speak.  Plan your speech according to the time frame allotted.  Many times, your speech will not be the only point of interest for the event.  The organizer will appreciate knowing that you will stay on time because that will mean that her event will also end on time.

Time each rehearsal and take an average of each rehearsal time to get a good idea of the length of time for your speech.  If you find that you are going “over time,” you will need to cut some of your sub-points.  If you find that you are going “under time,” you will need to add sub-points.  Now, you are almost ready! These details will not just happen and it is up to you, the speaker, to make sure that they do happen and at the time that you choose.

The SpeechShark app has a handy timer built in.  Simply choose the amount of time you will need to complete your speech and the app will remind you when you need to move from one point to the next. Check out our timing feature at www.SpeechShark.org.  Just another way that you can swim with ease through murky waters when you use the SpeechShark app!
